A couple years ago, I created a personal website where I provided links, on a daily basis, to my favorite articles, videos, music, and more. I quickly realized that I was in over my head. It became very time consuming and I found myself reading more than actually creating content, which was not my initial intent. This time around, I'll be focusing on expressing my own voice, while still providing articles or music I find interesting during the week.
You may be asking yourself - why? Why start a blog? How will your content be any different from the rest? Well, I've always thought of myself as a big thinker - I come up with "what-if" ideas that are not easily transferable into immediate actions, but may spark an interesting conversation.
The current and future development of American cities, for example, is an area of interest after my travels through easily-walkable cities abroad. From the narrow streets in Barcelona to the countless bridges in Venice, I was in amazement with my ability to explore these city solely by my own two feet.
Unlike other places throughout the world, America has a long, passionate history of loving our cars and long freeways. Currently, we're in a unique position with the testing of autonomous cars. Their release to the public is inevitable, but how will it reshape our urban environment? How will we, the citizens, react? Will we prioritize these autonomous vehicles or will we shape our built environment to allow for easier walkability? I can only hope for the latter. These are simple, common questions, yet infrequently brought to the forefront of our local news.
If you live in the Bay Area, I suggest you look into SPUR and attend one of their many events in San Francisco, Oakland, or San Jose. Become an ambassador for safety in your community.
